Donors, Grants & Scholarships
The Bishop Amat High School Scholarship Program provides funding for students who, without financial assistance, would be unable to attend Bishop Amat. Other than Honors at Entrance Scholarships, all scholarship opportunities have an income component and applicants must provide documentation of income to be eligible to receive the scholarship.

Bishop Amat Programs
Bishop Amat High School Endowment Trust Fund
On July 24, 2007 Bishop Amat High School, with the approval of His Eminence Roger M. Mahony, established the Bishop Amat Endowment Trust Fund. Interest earned on the fund provides scholarships to academically capable students in need of financial aid.
Bishop Amat High School Financial Aid Program
Specific amounts are appropriated through the school budget to underwrite financial aid that will be granted to needy students. Financial Aid applications are available in the Finance Office.
Honors at Entrance Scholarships
To be eligible for Honors at Entrance, the applicants must take the Bishop Amat High School entrance test and enroll as ninth grade students. Students who score in the 95th-99th percentile are awarded a $4,000.00 scholarship; those who score 90th-94th percentile are awarded a $3,000.00 scholarship; those who score in the 85th-89th percentile are awarded a $2,000.00. Honors at Entrance Scholarships are “Merit Based” and are for freshman year only.
Foundation Grants
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles Education Foundation Tuition Awards Program (CEF)
The Education Foundation provides Archdiocesan High Schools tuition awards in the amount of $2,000.00. The Education Foundation bases Financial Eligibility at approximately 15 percent above the Federal School Lunch Program income guidelines. The process for CEF Awards begins in November of each school year. Deadline: January 15.
Bill Hannon Foundation
The Bill Hannnon Foundation provides the school with an annual grant award to be used in the current year to fund scholarships to academically outstanding students, deserving and worthy to receive financial aid. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average.
George H. Mayr Foundation Scholarships
The George H. Mayr Foundation provides the school with an annual donation to be used in the current year to fund scholarships to academically outstanding students, deserving and worthy to receive financial aid. Students who are designated as Mayr Scholars must maintain a minimum grade point average of 4.0.
Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation Scholarships
The Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation Awards are granted to students who have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and who have a history of Christian Service. The student must complete a minimum of 25 hours of Christian Service under the supervision of Mr. Kasilag, the school’s Christian Service Program Moderator.
Named Scholarship Established by Individuals
Amat Legacy Scholarship
Mrs. Carol Moak ‘72 and Mr. Jim Moak ‘71, established this scholarship fund in 2010 to be awarded annually to students who are in need of financial assistance.
Angelo J. Brutocao Memorial Scholarship
The Brutocao Scholarship was established in 1999 with funds donated by the widow of the late Mr. Brutocao in memory of her deceased husband. Interest drawn from the investment provides for one annual scholarship to be awarded to an academically capable student in need of financial aid.
Bishop Amat High School Alumni Scholarship Fund
This scholarship fund was established in November, 2001 with monies donated by Bishop Amat Alumni and matched by the school. Interest earned provides annual scholarships to academically capable students in need of financial aid. When possible, the scholarship is awarded to a child of a Bishop Amat graduate.
Tommy Borruso Memorial Scholarship
In June 2013 the Tommy Borruso Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in memory of long-time Bishop Amat parent and supporter, Tommy Borruso. to be awarded annually to a student who is of sound character and demonstrates qualities such as commitment, integrity and perseverance. The student must also be involved in extracurricular activities.
Byrne Family Scholarships
The Byrne Family Scholarship was established in April 2011. Susan Byrne ‘73 and her husband Bob are active supporters of the school’s fund-raising efforts to provide scholarship assistance to those students whose families are unable to pay full tuition.
Carmen and Lucy Cavezza Scholarships
The Carmen and Lucy Cavezza Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 in memory of long-time Bishop Amat supporters, Carmen and Lucy Cavezza both of whom died in November 2008. Scholarships are awarded annually to students from St. Joseph School, La Puente.
Armando Gallegos Scholarships
The Armando Gallegos Scholarship was established with funds donated by the daughters of the late Mr. Gallegos in memory of their deceased father. Interest drawn from the investment provides for annual scholarships to be awarded to students who are experiencing financial difficulty.
Sylvester M. Graff Scholarships
The Graff Scholarship was established in 1999 with funds donated by the widow of the late Mr. Graff in memory of her deceased husband. Interest drawn from the investment provides for scholarships. In consultation with the Graff Family, the scholarship is awarded to a student of superior academic ability who is experiencing severe financial difficulty.
Helen F. Haden Scholarships
The Helen F. Haden Scholarship Fund was esrablished by Mr. Patrick Haden ‘71 in memory of his mother Helen. Interest drawn on the fund provides scholarships to students who are resident in Sacred Heart Parish in Covina (Mr. Haden’s parish of origin) with demonstrated academic ability and financial aid need.
George and Maria Isho Scholarship
The Isho Scholarship Fund was established in October 2012 by George and Maria Isho, long-time supporters of the school’s fund-raising efforts to provide scholarship assistance to those students whose families are unable to pay full tuition. This scholarship is given to students/parishioners of St. Martha's.
Knights of Columbus, Fr. Maguire Council Scholarships
In November 2005, the Fr. Maguire Council of the Knights of Columbus established a scholarship fund to provide scholarships to academically capable students in need of financial aid who are parishioners of St. Christopher.
Gordon and Elizabeth Ludwig Scholarships
In December 2010, Mr. Alan Ludwig, Class of 1964, recognizing the ongoing need for more sources of financial assistance, established a scholarship fund in his parents names.
Daylon McCutcheon Scholarships
In 2008, Daylon McCutcheon, Class of 1995, established the Daylon McCutcheon Scholarship Fund. In consultation with Mr. McCutcheon, awards are made to needy students who are of sound character and demonstrate qualities such as commitment, integrity and perseverance. The student must also be involved in the school community and maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average.
William & Agnes McGee Scholarships
The William and Agnes McGee Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 by Mr. Liam McGee ‘72 in memory of his parents, William and Agnes McGee. The scholarships are awarded annually to students from St. Joseph School, La Puente who are academically capable and in need of financial assistance.
E.F. McGrade & Eileen McGrade Scholarship
The McGrade Scholarship Fund was established in October 2011 and is awarded to a student who is in need of financial assistance.
Military Memorial Scholarships
The Bishop Amat Military Memorial (BAMM) Scholarship Fund was established in March 2009 as an endowed fund in the memory of our honored alumni who gave their lives in service to their country as members of the United States Armed Forces.
The Mike and Waunita Mulvehill - Ted Mulvehill ‘68 Scholarship Fund
The Mike and Waunita Mulvehill - Ted Mulvehill ‘68 Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 in memory of long-time Bishop Amat supporters, Mike and Waunita Mulvehill and alumni Ted Mulvehill ‘68 who passed away on September 26, 2008 after a difficult battle with cancer. To be awarded annually to a student from St. Christopher School, West Covina, who is in need of financial assistance.
Joseph “Sparky” O’Connor Scholarships
The “Sparky” O’Connor Scholarship Fund was established in October 2007 in memory of the much loved athletic coach who died earlier in the year. Scholarships are to be awarded annually to one male student and one female student.
Charles F. Policare Memorial Scholarship
The Charles F. Policare Scholarship was established in December 2003 in memory of the much loved veteran teacher who died earlier in the year. Interest drawn from the investment provides an annual scholarship to be awarded to a student as recommended by the Charles Policare Memorial Scholarship Committee.
Retreat Support Scholarships
In 2006 the school established a formal financial aid program for students who desire to participate in the school’s retreats but who are deterred from doing so because of financial constraints. To be awarded to students who are unable to afford the full cost of a school-sponsored retreat (Emmaus or Kairos)
Frank D. Richardson Scholarship
In July 2011 the Richardson Scholarship Fund was established. Mr. FrankRichardson, Class of 1962 to provide financial assistance to students in need.
John and Michelle Sciarra Scholarships
The John ‘72 and Michelle Sciarra Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 in recognition of long-time Bishop Amat supporters, John and Michelle Sciarra.
Scott Sullivan Textbook Scholarships
In June 2006 Mr. Charles A. Sullivan of Leawood, Kansas made a donation to Bishop Amat High School for the purpose of establishing the Scott Sullivan Textbook Scholarship Fund in memory of his recently deceased nephew, Scott Sullivan, an alumnus of Bishop Amat High School. Four $500 scholarships are granted annually to students who are maintaining good grades and are working part-time to help meet their tuition obligations to the school are eligible to receive financial assistance towards the cost of school required textbooks. Applications are available in June of each year. The Sullivan Family reviews the applications and designates the awardee(s).
Spohn Family Scholarship
In January 2013 Mr. Christopher Spohn ‘78 and his wife Antoinette established the Spohn Family Scholarship Fund. Scholarships are to be awarded annually to a needy student who is of sound character and demonstrates qualities such as commitment, integrity and perseverance. The student must also be involved in the school community.
St. Martha Parish Scholarship
In celebration of St. Martha School’s 50th anniversary, Bishop Amat established the St. Martha Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is an active parishioner of St. Martha Parish.
Jack and Rose Mary Teague Memorial Scholarships
In March 2010 the Jack and Rose Mary Teague Memorial Scholarship was established by Mr. Michael Teague, Class of 1975 in memory of his parents, Jack and Rose Mary Teague.
Rosella and Christopher R. Trujillo Scholarship Fund
A Trujillo Scholarship is awarded annually to an academically outstanding student from St. Louis of France School. The scholarship is $2,000 over four years ($500 a year). The recipients of the scholarship are chosen by the Trujillo Family.
Watson Land Company Scholarships
In 2012, The Watson Land Company Scholarship Fund was established. Criteria: to be awarded to students who live in the Chino, Chino Hills, Ontario, Inland Empire areas who are in need of financial assistance.
The James and Mary Pat Wiard Scholarship Fund
The James and Mary Pat Wiard Scholarship Fund was established in July 2009 in memory of James Wiard who passed away in May 2009 and his wife Mary Pat who is a long-time employee (Bookstore Manager) of the school. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who is a member of Annunciation Parish, who is in need of financial assistance.
The Monsignor Roland Zimmerman Scholarship Fund
In celebration of Monsignor Zimmerman’s 50th Anniversary of Priesthood, the school established the Monsignor Roland Zimmerman Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded annually to a student belonging to Annunciation Parish who is in need of financial assistance.
Class Scholarships
Class of 1961 Scholarship
The Class of 1961 Scholarship Fund was established by the school in October 2011 in honor of the first graduating class reaching their 50th Anniversary.
Class of 1968 Scholarship
The Class of 1968 Scholarship was established in 2013 by members of the Class of 1968 in memory of the deceased members of their class.
Class of 1969 Scholarship
On the occasion of their 40th class reunion in 2010, the Class of 1969 undertook to establish a named scholarship.
Class of 1970 Scholarship
The Class of 1970 Scholarship Fund was established in 2013 for the purpose of providing scholarship assistance to students who would otherwise not be able to attend Bishop Amat.
Class of 1971 Scholarship
The school established the Class of 1971 Scholarship fund on the eve of the 40th year reunion of the class.
Class of 2010 Scholarship
The school established the Class of 2010 Scholarship in recognition of the achievements of the members of the Class of 2010.
Class of 2011 Scholarship
The school established the Class of 2011 Scholarship in recognition of the achievements of the members of the Class of 2011.
Class of 2012 Scholarship
The school established the Class of 2012 Scholarship in recognition of the achievements of the members of the Class of 2012.
Class of 2013 Scholarship
The school established the Class of 2013 Scholarship in recognition of the achievements of the members of the Class of 2013.
