Boys' Volleyball
Bishop Amat offers one of the more competitive Boys Volleyball program in the area, and continues to
grow in recognition and accomplishments.
In 2018, the program honored its first All-CIF player, Zachary Burchardt. In 2021, Boys Volleyball earned its first Del Rey League Championship behind the leadership of Spencer McGee, Mackie Cabrera and Noah Rodriguez. The program has reached the playoffs twice in the past four seasons, and last season, it hosted its first Varsity and Junior Varsity tournaments with tremendous success. Included in that success, the Junior Varsity Team were League Champions for the first time, and the coming season foresees a continuing rise in popularity as another skilled group of athletes are expected to compete for the league title.
COACHING STAFF
Tim Flink - Varsity Head Coach
Coach Flink returns for his 7 th season as the Head Coach of the Boys Volleyball Program offering an
enormous wealth of knowledge and experience. After a successful High School career lettering in
football, basketball and volleyball at Los Altos and earning a CIF Championship with the undefeated
1982 Southern Conference Football Team, he continued his athletic achievements competing as a
standout player for the UC Irvine Men’s Volleyball Team winning a Division II Championship before
elevating to the Division I level finishing in the top 20 rankings every season under the guidance of the
legendary Coach Bill Ashen.
Emiliano Mendoza - Assistant Coach
Coach Mendoza brings more than 25 years of coaching experience to the program at both the high
school (St. Paul, Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary, Los Altos) and Junior College (Pasadena City, Rio Hondo) levels. Additionally, he continues to guide young athletes as a successful club volleyball coach from ages 14 to 18.
David Echavarria – Junior Varsity Head Coach
David returns for his 3 rd complete season after successfully capturing the 2022 Del Rey League Title. A
Lancer graduate (’16 with Honors), David brings enormous energy and “Lancer Experience” to the
program. Both a talented teacher and coach, David continues to provide terrific guidance in developing
young players, as well as, serving as a strong role model having recently started Law School and
advancing his professional skills.
