Recognized as one of the more competitive in the San Gabriel Valley, the Bishop Amat Boys Volleyball Program is committed to creating a culture of outstanding sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, and leadership on the court, in the classroom and throughout the community, preparing our student athletes to boldly face the future challenges and tremendous success after high school.

We strive to develop confident, responsible, respectful student-athletes led by faith, integrity and strong character who will inspire a legacy for future Lancers to follow.

Tim Flink - Varsity Coach

Coach Flink (2015-present) brings more than 40 years of volleyball knowledge and experience. After an enormously successful high school career lettering in 3 sports (football, basketball, volleyball) at Los Altos HS including as a member of the undefeated CIF and State Championship 1982 Southern Conference Football Team, he continued competing as a standout player for the UCI Men’s Volleyball Team (1986-1988), culminating in a Division II NationalChampionship and the rise to the Division I level finishing in the top 20 rankings each season under the legendary Coach - Bill Ashen.

Byron Pagdilao - Assistant Varsity Coach

Coach Pagdilao, a Bishop Amat Alumni, returns for his 2nd season as the Assistant Varsity Coach with more than a decade of experience building competitive teams and establishing a successful culture.

He currently serves as the Varsity Coach at St. Lucy’s Priory in Glendora following his tenures at Waverly High School (2024), San Gabriel High School 2018-2023 (boys & girls), and San Marino High School (Girls JV, 2017–2018). During that time, his teams earned six league titles, consistent CIF playoff appearances, and qualified for State Tournaments.

He is co-owner of 626 Volleyball Club, where his responsibilities include coaching both boys and girls teams, overseeing college recruiting opportunities and designing training programs for athletes looking to grow both on and off the court.

As a student at Bishop Amat, he competed as a four-year varsity player as an Outside Hitter/Defensive Specialist. After graduating, Coach Pagdilao played Libero at Stevenson University and then continued playing competitively in beach and grass tournaments after college.

Wing Chu - Junior Varsity Coach

A passionate volleyball lifer and community leader, Coach Chu joins the program this season bringing more than two decades of competitive volleyball experience. His journey began as a Middle Hitter at San Gabriel Academy (1999-2002), where he developed solid fundamentals in blocking, attacking and team communication. After graduating, he attend Cal Poly Pomona continuing to play for the Men’s Club Program.

After college, Coach Wing entered the area adult volleyball scene and continues to compete in various leagues including Men’s , Co-Ed, Reverse Co-Ed, and the fast-action Chinese-style 9-Man Team format.

He serves as a Gym Director (2018-present) and also assists with coaching at All-Star and District volleyball clubs, helping to mentor and develop the next generation of players. He is the founder and owner of CHU MEDIA, LLC, a full-service marketing company specializing in digital marketing, print marketing, graphic design and strategic marketing.
