Play Like a Champion Today - Coaches Class 

The date for our Play Like a Champion Today Coaches’ Clinic  

This program satisfies the CIF Coaches’ Education requirement for coaches whether they teach or not.  As a reminder, the Safe Environment training included in the Clinic no longer qualifies for VIRTUS certification for “walk-on coaches.”  (Please see the policy change below regarding VIRTUS certification.)  Because this is a virtual clinic, we will not be able to provide fingerprinting as has been done in the past.  Please contact Joel Avenido in the ADLA Fingerprinting Department at  JAvenido@la-archdiocese.org or (213) 637-7380 to set up an appointment for fingerprinting.   Any new coach who is working with students either remotely or for in-person conditioning, must satisfy the requirements of fingerprinting, VIRTUS training, and Play Like a Champion Today training.

IN ADDITION

Please emphasize with your coaches that in order to satisfy the CIF Coaches’ Education requirement, coaches must remain engaged for the entire Clinic.  At the end of the training, coaches will be asked to complete an exit form, and a short assessment will be given. A 60%  passing score on the assessment will be required to successfully earn the PLAC certification. Both the completion of this form and the assessment will validate their full participation in the Clinic and qualify them to receive Certification. The Certificate will be sent to the principals for dissemination to their coaches within two-three weeks after the Clinic. This Certificate also needs to be placed in their personnel file. Please inform the coaches to log in to the Clinic on time, as we will be calling roll shortly after the clinic begins at 12:00 p.m.  The Clinic will start and end on time. Due to the certification requirements for participation in this Clinic, no coach will be admitted to the Clinic after 12:15 p.m.  No exceptions! Also, this is a fully interactive workshop.  Besides the inter-communication with presenters and coaches, written work is also incorporated. 

IMPORTANT POLICY REGARDING “VIRTUS CERTIFICATION”

The Safe Environment training that is a part of the PLAC Coaches’ Clinic no longer satisfies the VIRTUS requirements of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.  All walk-on coaches will be required to take the full three-hour VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children for Adults” training to begin their coaching assignment. This VIRTUS training is already required of coaches who are also on the teaching staff.  The Safe Environment training currently included in the PLAC Coaches’ Clinic will continue its emphasis on specifics pertaining to coaching.  Further information on VIRTUS can be found here: https://lacatholics.org/education-and-training/

The Clinic costs $65.  Schools will be invoiced for the cost of their coaches during the week following the Clinic.  Please DO NOT send a check beforehand to cover the cost of your coaches.  Coaches are required to pre-register for the clinic using the link above.  We will send each principal an e-mail confirming the attendance of their coaches at the Clinic along with an invoice for payment for these coaches. If your high school does not cover the cost of your coaches for attendance at this Clinic, then you must make your own arrangements for reimbursement for the cost of their participation.
