Why Join Choir???

  1. Singing makes you happy and reduces stress. While you sing, your body produces both endorphins and oxytocin.  Endorphins are hormones associated with feelings of pleasure and joy and oxytocin is another hormone which has been found to alleviate anxiety and stress.
  2. Friendship. More than 42 million Americans sing in choruses, so you’re sure to make some new buddies.
  3. Bring home A’s. Research shows that students who sing in choruses get better grades than students who don’t.
  4. Make your college application shine. Admission folks will love to see that you’re involved in extracurricular activities—especially an activity like choir, which develops teamwork skills and self-discipline.
  5. Learn something new. Most of the students in the program had little to no experience when they joined. Now many of them can read music, understand proper vocal technique, and they perform regularly.

Testimonials
"Going into high school was scary because of the new workload and people I would be encountering. My time in choir my freshman year honestly made my new environment an easier adjustment and I loved being apart of the class. During my two years in choir I can say that this class has been a safe space and a place to learn and enjoy yourself. You really can just leave all your worries at the door. Mrs. Escovar is such a great teacher and I strongly recommend you join this class because of the wonderful people and memories you’ll make!" - Samantha (Class of 2022)

"I have been in Women’s Choir for two years now and it is by far the best decision I have ever made in high school! Choir is not like every other ordinary class. For instance, we do so many great activities that involve teamwork and traveling to places for performances! Last year, I had the opportunity to perform in Anaheim and spend a day at Disneyland with my choir family! Not only do we travel, but we create inseparable bonds with our peers. I have made very close friends that I am proud to consider them family! Before joining, I was very shy to sing in front of a crowd and now with the confidence that I have gained, I enjoy singing to an audience. In my second year, I became Vice President of the Women’s Choir and I have  earned my letter! Mrs. Escovar and Ms. Stressling are both two incredible music teachers who are committed to making your high school years memorable! Without them, the choir program would not be a success. Mrs. Escovar is passionate in teaching music and is one of my favorite teachers at Amat! You do not need to be a great singer to join the choir class! As long as you have the heart to try it, you will not regret it! Don’t hesitate! Join our Amat Choir Family for the upcoming school year!" - Krystal (Class of 2022)

"My only regret is not taking Women's Choir sooner in my high school career. I joined Women's Choir my senior year and was a bit nervous because I did not have any background in singing. It did not take me long to realize that regardless of where you stand as a singer, the choir family is welcome to anyone and everyone. Mrs. Escovar genuinely makes you feel special in your own way and pushes you to work harder to grow, not only as a singer, but as a student as well. Choir also allowed me to just relax and take a break from the stress of my other classes, which I did not realize is actually a good balance to have in your schedule. With that said I hope this encourages someone to join." - Sascha (Class of 2020)
