While the High School Placement Test (HSPT) Prep Course is not obligatory for the application process, it serves as a valuable preparation tool for students intending to take the HSPT. We highly recommend enrolling in this course, as it equips students with effective tactics and strategies to excel in the HSPT. Through the course, students will have the opportunity to take a practice test, acquaint themselves with the exam format, and understand its expectations better.

Catholic Education Foundation Tuition Awards

Families whose household income meets CEF guidelines are encouraged to apply for $2,000 Tuition Awards—applications open in October, with on-campus interviews in November.

Bishop Amat High School Financial Aid Program

To apply for Bishop Amat Financial Aid, families must first apply for a CEF Tuition Award if they meet the CEF income guidelines. All families may apply for Bishop Amat Financial Aid—applications are available in the Finance Office or at bishopamat.org. Required documents include 2025 tax returns, 2026 W-2s, and a recent pay stub. Deadline: February 3, 2026.

Honors at Entrance Academic Scholarships

Eighth grade students may earn an Honors at Entrance Scholarship for the 2026-2027 school year provided they take the High School Placement Test at Bishop Amat, achieve a national composite score of 85th percentile or higher, and register at Bishop Amat as an incoming ninth grader.

Scores and Scholarship Awards

• 95th - 99th percentile - $4,000 scholarship
• 90th - 94th percentile - $3,000 scholarship
• 85th - 89th percentile - $2,000 scholarship

All 8th grade applicants are required to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) as part of the admissions process at Bishop Amat. The HSPT helps us assess each student's academic strengths and ensures appropriate placement in freshman courses, including honors and advanced-level classes. Students are strongly encouraged to take the HSPT at Bishop Amat. However, we do accept scores from other Catholic high schools—please have official results sent to admissions@bishopamat.org. Students who do not take the HSPT will be required to enroll in summer school to determine proper course placement.

Bishop Amat Memorial High School accepts late applications for incoming 9th graders for the 2026-2027 school year. Please note the following important details:

• Summer School Requirement: Students who do not take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) will be required to attend summer school to ensure they are well-prepared for the academic challenges ahead.
• Increased Application Fee: Starting January 17, 2026, the application fee will increase to $125. We encourage you to complete your application as soon as possible to avoid the higher fee.
• Rolling Admissions: Acceptance notifications for late applicants will be sent out on a rolling basis. This means you will receive your admissions decision as soon as your application is reviewed and processed.

There are three steps in the admissions process.

• Submit a completed online Application.  
• Pay the $75.00 application/test fee by the due date, a late fee of $50 will be added for those who submit an application starting January 18, 2025.
• Take the HSPT (High School Placement Test).
• Complete the application checklist.

Students must schedule their HSPT via the application portal. The application fee includes the HSPT.

Your admission file is complete when all application forms, fees, transcripts and standardized test scores from the 7th and 8th grades, teacher evaluations, admissions interview and HSPT results are on file in the Admissions Office.  A confirmation email will be sent upon completion of application forms.

The Admissions Committee is looking at a variety of personality, achievement, and aptitude factors to evaluate a student’s demonstrated ability to succeed in a competitive college preparatory environment. Students who are applying must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better. In general, a student should display consistently strong academic achievement, positive relationships with peers and teachers, and a commitment to active participation in religious and extracurricular activities at school and in the community.

There are four criteria for admission (not necessarily in order of importance):

• Grades and standardized test scores from the 7th and 8th grades
• Recommendations from elementary or middle school teacher/counselor
• Parish Recommendation (if applicable)
• High School Placement Exam scores
• Family relationship with the school is also given consideration.

Test results will be forwarded to another school upon written request of the parent. We recommend students take the high school placement test at their school of first choice. Students who take the test at Bishop Amat are given priority over students who have tested somewhere else.

Approximately 80% of the students who apply for admission are accepted.

If you are accepted, you will have access to your high school placement test scores and middle school transcripts. They become part of your official academic file at Bishop Amat. You do not have access to any other application information (recommendations, comments, etc.) This information is considered confidential.

Test results and letters of admission status will be emailed and mailed on Friday, March 6, 2026 for students who tested in January and completed the application checklist by February 13, 2026.

Freshmen registration will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026.

A math placement exam is given to students who may qualify to take Geometry or Algebra II. A Spanish placement test is given for students who would like to qualify for Accelerated Spanish.

Both tests can be scheduled via the Application Portal once accepted.

Some students may be given a conditional acceptance and may be required to attend Summer School at Bishop Amat. Some students may also be given a conditional acceptance pending his/her performance during the 4th (or last) quarter at his/her present school. It is possible that acceptance may be revoked based on Summer School or 4th quarter performance, even if the student is not given a conditional acceptance.

When the current Freshman class has been selected, the Admissions Committee will prepare a list of students who are qualified, but who have not been accepted during the first-round. The Admissions Office will contact students as additional space becomes available.

First and foremost, Bishop Amat is a Catholic school. Bishop Amat owes much of its success to the generous support of the Catholic Community over the past 50 years. Catholic applicants are generally, but not always, given preference over non-Catholic applicants. Being Catholic is not a requirement for admission. Presently, the student body is 88% Catholic.
