For the 2025-2026 school year, application checklists completed by February 14, 2025 will receive their admissions notice on March 7, 2025. 

10th & 11th Grade Transfer Students

• Current Semester Transfer: To be eligible for transfer during the current semester, applications must be submitted before the 7-week grading period.
• 2nd Semester Transfer: For second-semester transfers into Bishop Amat, applications must be completed before December 1, 2024.
• 2025-2026 School Year Applicants: Applications completed by February 14, 2025 will receive their admissions notice on March 7, 2025. All others will be notified on a rolling basis.

Below are the key items you'll need to complete your application:

1. Application Form: Begin by providing your essential details, such as your name, contact information, and your child's name and date of birth.

2. Two Teacher Evaluations: Request teacher evaluations through our user-friendly portal. Simply input the teachers' email addresses, and they will receive the evaluation forms directly.

3. Parental Release of Information: This checklist item is required to give your son or daughter's current school permission to send us their transcripts.

4. Transcripts: Easily request your child's transcripts through the application portal. We've eliminated the need for in-person visits, making the process smoother for you. Simply input the appropriate email address at your child's school, and they will receive a request to upload the transcripts directly to our system.

5. Application Fee $75: Conveniently pay the application fee through our secure online payment system. The Application Fee also covers the cost of the High School Placement Test.  Application fee is $125 starting January 18.

6. High School Placement Test: Incoming Freshman only, there is no additional fee, sign up through the application portal.

While the High School Placement Test (HSPT) Prep Course is not obligatory for the application process, it serves as a valuable preparation tool for students intending to take the HSPT. We highly recommend enrolling in this course, as it equips students with effective tactics and strategies to excel in the HSPT. Through the course, students will have the opportunity to take a practice test, acquaint themselves with the exam format, and understand its expectations better.

Taking the HSPT is included in the application fee, so parents simply need to schedule an appointment through their application portal. Although test scores alone do not determine acceptance, there are several compelling reasons why we recommend your student takes the HSPT with us:

1. Receive Admissions Decision on March 7: Applicants who complete their application and take the HSPT by February 1st will be among the first to receive acceptance decisions. On Friday, March 7, students will receive an email notifying them of their acceptance, accompanied by social media graphics to commemorate the occasion. Decision letters, along with test scores, will also be mailed out on this day.

2. Honors at Entrance Scholarship Eligibility: By taking the High School Placement Test at Bishop Amat, your student becomes eligible for the Honors at Entrance Scholarship. Achieving a national composite score of 85th percentile or higher will automatically grant eighth-grade students who register at Bishop Amat as incoming ninth graders the Honors at Entrance Scholarship for their freshman year. The scholarship awards are based on the following percentiles: 95th - 99th percentile - $4,000; 90th - 94th percentile - $3,000; 85th - 89th percentile - $2,000.

3. Financial Aid Consideration: Financial aid applications at Bishop Amat are processed on a first-come, first-served basis. To be eligible for financial aid, families must complete an Admissions Application, which includes taking the High School Placement Test. Submitting your student's application early and being part of the first round of acceptances on March 7 will ensure your student's financial aid application is considered sooner.

4. Influence on Freshman Year Classes: The HSPT provides valuable insights into the suitable courses for your student during their freshman year. If accepted, students and families will have the opportunity to meet with a Counselor on March 22 to enroll in their ninth-grade classes. HSPT scores play a significant role in determining eligibility for honors or advanced courses.

Catholic Education Foundation Tuition Awards

The Catholic Education Foundation (CEF) provides tuition assistance to the most financially deserving students attending Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Tuition awards of $2,000 are available to families whose household income meets published guidelines. Families seeking financial assistance are strongly encouraged to apply for CEF Awards. Applications are available in the Bishop Amat High School Finance Office beginning in October. Interviews conducted by CEF personnel take place on campus in November or December.

Bishop Amat High School Financial Aid Program

Families who meet CEF Income Guidelines must first submit an application for a CEF Tuition Award in order to be eligible to apply for Bishop Amat Financial Aid. Families who do not meet CEF Income Guidelines may also apply for Bishop Amat Financial Aid. Applications are available in the Bishop Amat High School Finance Office or online at bishopamat.org. Proof of income (2022 tax return, 2024 W-2 forms and a current paycheck stub) must be provided with the application. The deadline for application submission is first week of February.

Honors at Entrance Academic Scholarships

Eighth grade students may earn an Honors at Entrance Scholarship for the 2025-2026 school year provided they take the High School Placement Test at Bishop Amat, achieve a national composite score of 85th percentile or higher, and register at Bishop Amat as an incoming ninth grader.

10th & 11th Grade Transfer Students
Applicants for the 2025-2026 school year who have completed their application by February 14 will receive notice on March 7, all other admissions decisions will be sent on a rolling basis.

Bishop Amat Memorial High School accepts late applications for incoming 9th graders for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note the following important details:

• Summer School Requirement: Students who do not take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) will be required to attend summer school to ensure they are well-prepared for the academic challenges ahead.
• Increased Application Fee: Starting January 18, 2025, the application fee will increase to $125. We encourage you to complete your application as soon as possible to avoid the higher fee.
• Rolling Admissions: Acceptance notifications for late applicants will be sent out on a rolling basis. This means you will receive your admissions decision as soon as your application is reviewed and processed.

There are three steps in the admissions process.

• Submit a completed online Application.  
• Pay the $75.00 application/test fee by the due date, a late fee of $50 will be added for those who submit an application starting January 18, 2025.
• Take the HSPT (High School Placement Test).
• Complete an Admissions Interview.
• Complete the application checklist.

Students must schedule their HSPT via the application portal. The application fee includes the HSPT.

Your admission file is complete when all application forms, fees, transcripts and standardized test scores from the 7th and 8th grades, teacher evaluations, admissions interview and HSPT results are on file in the Admissions Office.  A confirmation email will be sent upon completion of application forms.

The Admissions Committee is looking at a variety of personality, achievement, and aptitude factors to evaluate a student’s demonstrated ability to succeed in a competitive college preparatory environment. Students who are applying must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 or better. In general, a student should display consistently strong academic achievement, positive relationships with peers and teachers, and a commitment to active participation in religious and extracurricular activities at school and in the community.

There are four criteria for admission (not necessarily in order of importance):

• Grades and standardized test scores from the 7th and 8th grades
• Recommendations from elementary or middle school teacher/counselor
• Parish Recommendation (if applicable)
• High School Placement Exam scores
• Admissions Interview
• Family relationship with the school is also given consideration.

Test results will be forwarded to another school upon written request of the parent. We recommend students take the high school placement test at their school of first choice. Students who take the test at Bishop Amat are given priority over students who have tested somewhere else.

If you are accepted, you will have access to your high school placement test scores and middle school transcripts. They become part of your official academic file at Bishop Amat. You do not have access to any other application information (recommendations, comments, etc.) This information is considered confidential.

Approximately 80% of the students who apply for admission are accepted.

Test results and letters of admission status will be emailed and mailed on Friday, March 7, 2025 for students who test in January or February. Students who do not take the High School Placement Test in January or February will be notified once they take the HSPT, either in March or April, and on a rolling basis.

Freshmen registration will take place on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

A math placement exam is given to students who may qualify to take Geometry or Algebra II. Information regarding the dates and qualifications for taking this exam will be given on Registration Day.

Some students may be given a conditional acceptance and may be required to attend Summer School at Bishop Amat. Some students may also be given a conditional acceptance pending his/her performance during the 4th (or last) quarter at his/her present school. It is possible that acceptance may be revoked based on Summer School or 4th quarter performance, even if the student is not given a conditional acceptance.

When the current Freshman class has been selected, the Admissions Committee will prepare a list of students who are qualified, but who have not been accepted during the first-round. The Admissions Office will contact students as additional space becomes available.

First and foremost, Bishop Amat is a Catholic school. Bishop Amat owes much of its success to the generous support of the Catholic Community over the past 50 years. Catholic applicants are generally, but not always, given preference over non-Catholic applicants. Being Catholic is not a requirement for admission. Presently, the student body is 88% Catholic.

Tuition for 2023-2024 is $9,845 and the registration fee is $900.

This fee offsets the costs associated with the registration of students and various student services offered throughout the school year. (Student activities, Athletics, Yearbook, Lancer Life, Campus Ministry, Planner and Raffle)
