ACCOUNTING – CONCEPTS, PROCEDURES, AND SIMULATIONS (two semesters; Juniors and Seniors)
PREREQUISITE: Grade of B in Algebra A/B/C or C in Algebra I This course addresses the needs of students who want a strong foundation in basic accounting theory and procedures, and in computerized accounting systems. This course is recommended for any student considering business as a college major. This class is comparable to an entry-level college accounting course. Students will learn to journalize and post transactions. Check writing, bank reconciliation, and payroll preparation are covered for a sole proprietorship and partnership business. The corporate form of ownership is explored.
INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS (one semester; Juniors and Seniors)
This course provides an introductory study of business and its functions, background, development, organization and opportunities. Terms, current trends, case studies, current business practices and career opportunities in the world of business, as well as managing personal business, are covered. Various business concepts such as marketing, finance, management, social responsibility and business ethics are explored. This course is recommended for students considering Business as a major in college or those interested in acquiring an understanding of personal financial management.
BUSINESS ANALYSIS W/ EXCEL (one semester; Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors)
PREREQUISITE: C in Digital Literacy This course offers students the opportunity to master the functionality of Microsoft Excel. The areas of focus include applying formulas and advanced financial functions, graphs data to analyze trends, the use of analytical tools to generate reports, importing and manipulating data and other features especially useful to the financial or accounting professional.
PERSONAL FINANCE (one semester; Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors)
Learn to take charge of your personal finances instead of letting your money control you. Students will learn to make responsible decisions regarding money management and investment strategies to achieve financial independence. Topics will include budgeting, banking, consumer spending, credit and installment loans, payroll and taxes, purchasing/leasing cars, real estate ownership, insurance, investing in stocks, bonds and mutual funds, and portfolio management.
MARKETING THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA (two semesters; Juniors and Seniors)
PREREQUISITE: B in Intro to Business OR B in Web Design OR Department Chair approval This course is designed to prepare students for the creation of effective social media marketing campaigns and business plans. Students will explore the history of the internet and the explosion of social media through inquiry-based research. Students will build a positive digital footprint, learn about communication norms using various communication platforms and social networking sites, and practice strategies for keeping themselves safe online. Students will be exposed to the fundamental concepts and principles of the digital experience, focus on the learning tools and skills necessary for solving business problems, and developing marketing opportunities. This course will provide practical experience in, eCommerce, media planning, branding, online advertising, display advertising, digital campaigns, social media marketing and mobile media.
