May 2026 Parent Newsletter

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents:

I’d like to dedicate this month’s message to the parents of the Class of 2026. As we approach the busy month of May, be sure to take time to slow down and appreciate the moments that will make up your student’s final days at Bishop Amat. The students are ready to move on. They have fulfilled the academic requirements set forth for them, they have walked with Christ on their faith journey, they have made us proud on the field, court, and stage. We pray that their time at Bishop Amat has provided the foundation they need to be successful moving forward, not only in their educational endeavors, but also in their ability to be good friends, citizens, and (for some) future parents.

For those returning to Bishop Amat, please be sure to sign up for Summer School 2026 as soon as possible. We have some great offerings this session for students, including courses for original credit like, Medical Terminology, Clothing, Speech, Short Story and advancement opportunities in mathematics. Please talk to your student about the benefit of taking summer school for grade replacement and GPA enhancement purposes. Lancers always do extremely well in our summer programs!

God Bless,

Gabriel Escovar
Principal

Summer School 2026 – Registration Now Open!

Bishop Amat’s Summer School Program offers students the opportunity to stay on track, get ahead, or explore new areas of interest. This year’s program runs from June 16 to July 21, with no classes on June 19 or July 3.

Any student who receives an F as a final grade in a course must attend Bishop Amat 2026 Summer School, regardless of whether the course is an elective or a graduation requirement and regardless of the total number of credits earned.

Students who earn a D in Spanish I are also required to attend Summer School.  Additionally, for students who receive Ds, it is highly recommended that they remediate the grade through Summer School at Bishop Amat, as colleges do not accept D grades for admission.

During the summer session, we offer advancement and remediation courses, including core subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Additionally, students can earn credits toward graduation through our Career and Technical Education (CTE) elective. This summer, we are excited to offer the CTE course Medical Terminology. This course will provide students with practical knowledge and skills for exploring careers in the medical field.

Registration is currently open.  Please visit the Summer School website for more information. All current students must meet with their counselor to review the required courses and receive a registration form.

Forms will be turned in at the front office, and fees will be billed to their FACTS account. It is very important for students to register for Summer School as soon as possible so that the school administration can staff the summer classes appropriately.  Feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor with questions.

Amat Athletics

As we close out the school year, our Spring Sports are in full swing!

Our Girls Beach Volleyball is already in the CIF playoffs with hopes to make a deep run in the Division 3 grouping.

Baseball, Boys Volleyball and Softball are playing their last league games and all teams will head into the playoffs.  Baseball placed first in league standings, Boys Volleyball is in third place in league standings and Softball is in fourth place in the tough Del Rey League.

Our Track and Field Teams continue to post impressive personal best performances.  Leading the group is the 800 relay teams. The girls team placed 4th overall with a running time of 10:05.45 which now moves them to #1 in CIF Southern Section Division 4 and #5 in school history. The team is composed of Mariah Tellez, Bella Casas, Natalie Nilo and Gaby Deleon.

The boys team placed 7th overall with a running time of 8:23.54 which shatters the previous school record set back in 2014. This performance ranks them #4 in CIF Southern Section Division 4. The team is composed of Michael Glenn, Noah Guillen, Elijah Arriola, and Joseph Espinoza.

Both Boys Golf and Tennis Teams had wonderful surprises. The Golf Team won the Del Rey League Championship and are ready to conquer the CIF playoffs. Our Tennis Team advanced Jaedon Magaling to the Del Rey League Finals. Jaedon is the first Lancer to do so in over four years!

Our Swim Teams are headed into Del Rey League finals and we wish them good luck!

One of our newest sports, Stunt, is having an awesome year! They currently boast a 5-0 record in the Almont League as they continue to get stronger each week. Next up for them will be the CIF Playoffs.

The Amat Athletic Booster Club is ramping up for the 2026-2027 athletic school year. Look for information throughout the year as to how you can help with our athletic success. Any questions email them at Booster Athletics.

Bishop Amat has had an exciting athletic season for 2025-2026. We look forward to carrying this greatness over to the 2026-2027 season as we look to improve even more.

Thank you to all of the parents and extended families who support Amat Athletics.

Family Ministry

Family Virtue Discussions

Virtue Spotlight: Piety
Definition:
The strength to honor God, respect one’s parents and family, and show reverence for sacred things. It involves loving and serving God and the community with a heart full of devotion and gratitude.

Suggested Reflection-Discussion Questions:

  1. How can showing reverence for your parents and family be an act of piety?
  2. How does piety help you grow in your relationship with God and others?
  3. What are some specific ways you can incorporate piety into your daily routine as a family?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, help our family to always show you reverence, and to place our relationship with you as our foremost priority.  Amen.

Tuition and Semester Exams

Please be reminded that May is your last tuition payment for the 2025-2026 school year.  It is school policy that a student’s tuition account be current in order for the student to sit for semester exams.  All students, regardless of the financial status of his/her FACTS account, will take Part A semester exams.  If the FACTS tuition account is delinquent, your student will not be allowed to take Part B semester exams and will receive an Incomplete (I) grade in each class in which a final exam is missed.  Please note that Incomplete grades affect a student’s grade point average.  In order to participate in extracurricular activities/athletics, a student must earn at least a 2.0 g.p.a. Please make sure your account is current so there are no issues with exams.

Any family that has a delinquent account on May 1 (after the April  20th payment) will be required to make all payments in the front office.   Payments must be made in cash, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card only.  No personal checks will be accepted as a means of payment on a delinquent account.  For purposes of taking semester exams, payments made on a delinquent account through the FACTS account within a week of exams will not be considered as a payment and the student will not be allowed to take Part B exams.

Questions regarding FACTS accounts should be directed to Mrs. Letycia Gomez at 626-962-2495, Ext. 7414 or by email at lgomez@bishopamat.org.

Parent Hours

As published in Lancer Life, the deadline to finish parent volunteer hours is Thursday, April 30.  Parent hour charges will be posted to the FACTS accounts the week of May 4 and monies withdrawn from FACTS will take place on Monday, May 18.  Please take the time now to check the parent hours portal to make sure all of the hours you have volunteered are accounted for.  Discrepancies should be immediately brought to the attention of Ms. Maria Zaragoza, Parent Hours Coordinator at mzaragoza@bishopamat.org so that corrections can be made before the charges are posted to the FACTS accounts.

Important Reminders

Food Deliveries to Campus

Just a friendly reminder to all parents that, per school policy, we do NOT accept any deliveries (i.e. food, balloons or other items) to the school in celebration of a birthday, anniversary or other special days, including on days where school-wide picnics are scheduled.

Early Dismissal on Special Picnic Days

Per school policy, on special activity or picnic days, early dismissal requests will not be approved and processed unless the parent/legal guardian comes to campus to personally make the request.  This includes the parent/legal guardian of any student driver.  Email and phone call requests will not be accepted either.  There will be no exceptions to this school policy.  Please note that Friday, May 22, is a picnic day so this policy will be enforced that day.  We thank you, in advance, for your understanding and cooperation.
