April 2026 Parent Newsletter

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents:

He is risen! Alleluia!

I hope all Bishop Amat families are able to experience the joy of Easter with their loved ones during this much-deserved vacation. When we return, we begin the final march toward the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year.

Bishop Amat’s Summer School and Summer Enrichment programs are essential components of our mission to educate students in the spirit of Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge. In my experience, whether a student needs to remediate a grade, advance in mathematics, or take an elective to bolster their GPA, students who participate in summer school earn excellent grades for their time and effort. Additionally, the in-person experience ensures that students master the material and are fully prepared for future learning.

Likewise, if you have friends or family with children entering middle school next year, I encourage you to help us promote our Summer Enrichment program. Taught by Amat faculty, this program is a perfect way for students to augment their education, prevent learning loss, and explore intriguing new topics. With diverse offerings including Writing, Mathematics, Theater Arts, Spanish, Music, and Physical Conditioning, there is truly something for every learner. We believe the affordable tuition and high instructional value provide a premier opportunity for middle school children.

May the love we feel on Easter morning stay with us throughout the season and always.

God Bless,

Gabriel Escovar
Principal

College Information Needed

A display is being set up in the main office to recognize seniors for their college acceptances. If you would like your child to be included, please have them bring a copy of any acceptance letters to Mr. Scott, our College Counselor. His office is located in the 400 wing.

We would also like to provide information about college scholarships that seniors have been awarded in this year’s graduation program.  Copies of award letters should be given to Mr. Scott no later than Friday, April 17. All scholarships should be included, even if they are from colleges students have decided not to attend.

Summer School 2026 – Registration Now Open!

Bishop Amat’s Summer School Program offers students the opportunity to stay on track, get ahead, or explore new areas of interest. This year’s program runs from Tuesday, June 16 to Tuesday, July 21 with no classes on Friday, June 19 or Friday, July 3.

Any student who receives an F as a final grade in a course must attend Bishop Amat 2026 Summer School, regardless of whether the course is an elective or a graduation requirement and regardless of the total number of credits earned.

Students who earn a D in Spanish I are also required to attend Summer School.  Additionally, for students who receive Ds, it is highly recommended that they remediate the grade through Summer School at Bishop Amat, as colleges do not accept D grades for admission.

During the summer session, we offer advancement and remediation courses, including core subjects such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Additionally, students can earn credits toward graduation through our Career and Technical Education (CTE) elective, Medical Terminology.

Registration is currently open, and students can pick up registration papers from their counselor or Ms. Joseph, Assistant Principal of Academics. Please visit the Summer School website for more information. It is very important for students to register for Summer School as soon as possible so that the school administration can staff the summer classes appropriately.  Feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor with questions to ensure you are signing up for the correct classes.

Student Activities

Spring Musical 2026

The Bishop Amat Theater Department presents “Frozen". For the first time in forever, experience the musical phenomenon that has taken the world by storm! Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, Disney’s Frozen includes all the film’s beloved songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with new music written exclusively for the stage.

In the beautiful mountainous kingdom of Arendelle, Princesses Anna and Elsa grow up sheltered inside their castle, isolated from the world and increasingly distant from each other. When Elsa is crowned queen, the magical powers she’s desperately tried to conceal from her sister take control, and she flees into the mountains. As a ferocious winter descends on Arendelle, Anna sets off on an epic journey to find Elsa and bring her home – with the help of hardworking ice harvester Kristoff, his loyal reindeer Sven, and a happy-go-lucky snowman named Olaf.

Full of magic, humor, and a stunning musical score, Frozen is a powerful tale of sisterhood, acceptance, and finding the real meaning of true love.

In support of our school philosophy in the areas of moral attitudes and safety, all parents and students must acknowledge and abide by the standards of dress and behavior as established in the Lancer Life.  Parents and students are expected to select attire appropriate to the ideals of Christian modesty that are often distinctly different from a secular society.  Please carefully review the Prom Dress Code Guidelines, currently posted on the grade level Google Classroom and our school website, when making your attire selection.  Remember that all females, including guests, must have their Prom attire approved before the dance.

Lastly, parents are reminded that tuition accounts must be current for students to be eligible to attend Prom.

Students are expected to:

  • Complete service across three areas: school community, faith-based, and broader community service
  • Submit proper documentation and verification for all hours
  • Complete a reflection on their service experience

Please note:

  • Service hours cannot be earned through for-profit organizations or family businesses

  • All hours must be fully documented and submitted by the deadline

If your student still needs hours, there are resources and opportunities available on the school website.

Family Virtue Discussions

Virtue Spotlight: Faith
Definition:
Faith is more than just belief; it’s a personal, trusting relationship with God that shapes how we live and act. It’s a gift from God, but it also requires effort and cooperation from us to grow and flourish. Faith is the foundation of the Christian life. It leads us to hope, love, and follow God's will, even when we cannot fully see the outcome.

Suggested Reflection-Discussion Questions:
1. In what ways can you strengthen your faith, especially when you are uncertain or afraid?
2. How does living with faith impact your daily decisions and relationships?
3. Have you ever experienced a time when doubt made it harder for you to trust in God? How did you work through that doubt?

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, help our family to strengthen our faith in You.  Amen.

Parent Night: Parenting Emerging Adults

Family Ministry will host a parent-only event on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 6:30 pm in the Library.  This evening will address the dynamics involved in parenting college-aged young adults.  This will be an evening for parents to talk together and review information on this generation's experience of emerging adulthood.  The evening is for parents only; we invite all of our parents, but it may be particularly useful for our junior and senior parents.  Parents attending will receive one parent hour per family.  Please RSVP HERE.  If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Nicole Pfiester at: npfiester@bishopamat.org

Parent Participation Program: Complete Your Volunteer Hours

Please be reminded that the deadline for volunteer hours is fast approaching!  This year’s deadline is Thursday, April 30.  As the deadline approaches, please be aware that unless there is a “No Show” for bingo set up, regular games and/or take down, we will not be able to accommodate Walk-ins. Please do not show up and expect to volunteer.  You can take a chance that there will be a no-show, but no guarantees that you will be able to stay to help.

2026-2027 FInancial Aid Update

Unfortunately, we are delayed in making determinations on financial aid for next school year.  CEF, our major source of financial aid funding, is currently in negotiations with their major donor as to whether the CEF’s New Enrollment Initiative Program will continue to be funded.  The NEI Program accounts for approximately $300,000 in financial aid funding to Bishop Amat.  As soon as we have more information from CEF we will begin the determination process.  Please be patient as we “wait” to hear what funding will be available to Bishop Amat.

Important Reminders

Kindly review the following reminders from the Attendance Office and the Discipline Department to assist us in addressing some recurring issues with our students:

  • School starts at 8:05 each day.  It is extremely important for students to arrive at school on time and establish this good habit which will be helpful to them later in life.
  • If your student arrives late to school (after 8:10 am), they MUST check in at the Attendance Office whether they have a note or not.  This is especially important for students who miss full class periods in a day.  Failure to check in will result in a dean referral.
  • If your student is absent, you must provide a parent-signed note to clear the absence as verified.  If your student’s absence is not verified, teachers may not accept absent work per Lancer Life, page 26.
  • If you plan to pull your student from school early, it is important to notify the Attendance Office as early in the day as possible.  You can either email attendance@bishopamat.org or send a note with your student.  This will allow us to process the early dismissal request in a timely manner.
  • If parents come to school to pull their student from school early, please note that, per school policy, early dismissal requests cannot be made while students are at break, lunch, or a scheduled assembly/activity/Mass.  We recommend that you check the calendar before coming to school to ensure you arrive outside of those times.
  • Students are expected to report to school in approved dress code items daily.  Failure to do so will result in removing your student from class until the issue is resolved.
  • Boys are expected to be clean-shaven every day at school.  Students will be required to shave at school if they do not comply with this expectation.
  • ONLY Bishop Amat sweatshirts are allowed to be worn at school.  In colder weather, students may wear a SOLID COLOR jacket in black, gray, navy and royal blue OVER their Amat sweatshirt.  Sweaters/Sweatshirts with zippers are not jackets, and may not be worn over Amat hoodies.
  • Uniform skirts, skorts and shorts are expected to be no shorter than 3” above the knee.  If a student repeatedly violates this policy, she may be denied the option of wearing these items.  Instead, she may be asked to exclusively wear uniform pants to school.
  • Students out of dress code will be pulled from class until the issue is corrected.
  • Only students who purchased a parking permit and have a valid permit for the current semester are allowed to park in the student lot.  Please remind your student that they must park in their assigned spot at all times.  If they have not purchased a parking permit for the semester, they MUST park off campus.

Student Safety

For the safety of our students, we do not allow students to wait for their rides unattended in front of the school, by the PAC (theater) or on Orange.  If you arrive after 3:10 pm to pick up your student, please have him/her wait for you in the back of the campus by the covered lunch area.

For those students wishing for a quiet academic area in which to work, please note that the school library is open after school until 5:00 pm from Monday through Friday.
