Theatre Program

The Bishop Amat Theatre Program is active throughout the school year and sponsors a variety of performances.

In the Fall the Theatre Department produces a play which is performed in Amat's own Performing Arts Building on campus. The performances traditionally take place anywhere from mid-October to early-November. We have performed such plays as "The Foreigner," "Twelve Angry Jurors," and "The Odd Couple" in recent years.

The winter brings "Evening of Theatre" which is a student talent show sponsored by The Drama Club. The performance takes place in January and is a showcase of Lancer Talent! This event also is located in the Performing Arts Building on campus.

The biggest Theatre Production takes place in the Spring, and is a collaboration between the Theatre and Music Departments... The Spring Musical! We travel off campus for this production to The Whittier Center Theatre where student's get an expanded performing experience. They are treated to all the amenities of an actual theater such as a proscenium stage and live music. Some past musicals are, "Godspell," "The Wiz," and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."

Every one of these performing events needs a variety of actors/actresses, set designers, crew members, and make-up artists and these positions are open to all Amat students. The auditions for the acting roles usually take place about 7-8 weeks before the show opens and all students, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors are encouraged to audition for the different roles. The crew members begin meeting about 4 weeks before the show opens to build sets and gather props and prepare for all the backstage work.

Being in a theatrical performance at Bishop Amat is a very rewarding experience. Besides learning about the "ins and outs" of stage work, students also develop lasting friendships and memories to carry with them forever!
